So I got the letter saying I’m on the waiting list for the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE). I’m seriously bummed out. For an independent comic artist in the midwest, convention options are limited and alternative/small press shows even more limited. We’re just getting our comic off the ground. We were going to debut our first collection (100 pages) at the show…
I know space was extremely limited, I just keep wishing they’d considered how much a show like that would mean to an indie creator trying to get noticed versus giving those spots to established creators who already have the attention of the community.
I’m probably going to try to attend anyway. I still want to support the community I’m trying desperately to be a part of.
Congrats to those exhibiting this year, maybe I’ll be joining you next year.
